Not convinced you can make an impact by switching to renewable energy? Customers are voting with their dollars across the Northwest and making a huge impact.
Since 2000, Renewable NW has produce a report on the success of the voluntary green power purchases made by customers through their utility programs. The results have been astounding. The latest report, Powerful Choices XII, shows that over 243,000 utility customers at more than 60 utilities in the Northwest have voluntarily elected to purchase renewable energy. Collectively, they purchased more than 2.2 billion kilowatt-hours in 2012, or enough energy to power 179,000 homes.
Northwest customers are voluntarily purchasing enough renewable energy to prevent an estimated 2.8 billion pounds of C02 emissions, or the equivalent to taking more than 268,000 cars off the road or planting nearly 293,000 acres of forest.
