RNP Leads BPA Rate Case Settlement

The region’s leading renewable energy advocacy organization, Renewable Northwest Project, is pleased to announce that on May 15, BPA rate case parties came to a settlement agreement regarding the operation and rates for renewable energy resource integration in the Northwest. The settlement agreement will allow the parties to move forward in addressing integration issues in a constructive and collaborative manner.

As operational tools and practices evolve, RNP remains committed to increasing opportunities for integrating more renewable resources more efficiently. Commented Cameron Yourkowski, senior policy analyst involved in the settlement negotiations, “We have an opportunity during this transition period amongst all parties to develop durable solutions to these complex and highly technical integration issues. This settlement enables that kind of collaborative approach.”

The current integration structures in place discriminate against wind and solar resources. The integration rates create higher electricity costs for consumers and discourage investment in renewable resources.
