RNP Commends PacifiCorp for Modernizing Grid, Saving Consumers Money

Proposed EIM Marks Positive Step for Renewables

In an announcement this morning, PacifiCorp and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) have taken the first steps towards creating a real-time energy imbalance market (EIM).

States Rachel Shimshak, Renewable Northwest Project executive director, “This announcement marks a positive step forward in modernizing the Western electric grid and reducing costs to consumers. We commend PacifiCorp for their leadership and are optimistic that additional utilities will soon complete their cost-benefit analyses and pursue similar options to improve the efficiency and reliability of the grid. EIM has proven to be an effective tool in other parts of the country, and we support all efforts to improve grid efficiency and diversify our energy portfolio.”

An EIM is a voluntary, centralized market that gets numerous balancing areas to work together more collaboratively, improving efficiency, and consequently increasing benefits to customers.
