Utilities Offering Green Power Programs
A Complete List of Programs in the Northwest

Many Northwest utilities offer a green power option to their customers. Find out if your utility has a green power program! Click on your state below to see a complete list.

Idaho      Montana      Oregon      Washington

What if my utility is not listed?
If your utility is not on the list for your state, please contact your utility and request that they purchase renewables and/or offer their customers a green power option that meets regional standards developed though Renew 2000. In this age of restructuring and customer choice, utilities care what their customers think -- demand renewable energy and you might get it!

Another option is to purchase Green Tags through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Green Tags are created when wind power or other renewable energy is substituted for traditional power. Green Tags represent the real savings in carbon dioxide and other pollutants that occur when green power replaces burning fossil fuels. Buying Green Tags has the same effect as buying green power. Both replace fossil fuel generators with clean renewables, and both have the same environmental benefits. And you can buy Green Tags from anywhere in the world!

Are you confused by Oregon's new power purchasing options? Click here for a brief explanation.

Why buy green power?

Signing up for green power is a great way to reduce our impact on the environment and ensure a clean energy future for the Northwest. Renewable energy does not create the global waming emissions associated with fossil fuels, and investing in renewables keeps your energy dollars here in the Northwest.
(Still not convinced? See our "Why purchase green power?" page.)

Some Northwest utilities are purchasing green power for a portion of their total energy supply on behalf of all their customers. These utilities are:

  •  Emerald People's Utility District
  •  City of Idaho Falls
  •  Pacific Power
  •  Portland General Electric
  •  Salem Electric
  •  Snohomish County Public Utility District No.1

Is renewable energy reliable?
Don't worry; your lights won't even flicker when you "go green." The blocks of green power you purchase are investments in renewable energy. The energy you currently use in your home will be supplemented with renewable sources, and you will have the same reliability and quality that you would if you were not buying renewables, but without creating air pollution.
