BETSY KAUFFMAN
Betsy Kauffman is the Salmon-Friendly Power Program Manager at For the Sake of the Salmon, a regional salmon recovery organization formed in 1995. The Salmon-Friendly Power program partners with electric utilities in offering customers the opportunity to purchase renewable power and contribute to salmon habitat restoration projects. Betsy oversees the distribution of funds to salmon habitat projects, program marketing, production of newsletters for customers, and policy development. Betsy has been with For the Sake of the Salmon for eight years, having first served as the group’s Communications Director.
Betsy has extensive background in media and communications. She spent 12 years working as a news reporter and news anchor for radio stations across the country, including KEX in Portland, Oregon, and WMAQ-AM and WXRT-FM in Chicago where she covered politics and city hall.
Betsy also worked as Media Director for the Oregon Senate Democratic Caucus in 1994 and 1995. In addition to publicizing caucus activities, her duties included media consulting for state senators and media relations training for legislative assistants.
