JOHN IANI
A Over the past 20 years I have worked with and supported the fishermen of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska who owe their livelihood to a healthy environment. I understand all too well the need to protect our natural resources and preserve the quality of life so vitally linked to each and every person in Region 10.

Prior to Mr. Iani's appointment in September 2001 to lead the EPA's operations in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, he was a senior executive with Unisea Corporation, one of the largest seafood companies in the nation. As Vice President for Corporate Affairs and General Counsel he was involved in improving worker health protections for crab processing workers. His work with congress helped to establish the American Fisheries Act, which reduces impact on the fishery resource by allowing buyouts of individual fishing operations.

As President of the Pacific Seafood Processors Association in the early 1990's, Mr. Iani represented the top twenty seafood processing companies in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska on innovative solutions such as utilizing wastewater discharge screening and waste reduction through pre-consumer recycling.

While employed at Bogle and Gates (the largest Pacific Northwest firm at the time) from 1985 to 1990, he practiced litigation on fisheries, maritime and admiralty issues before state and federal courts. In the years preceding becoming a member of the Washington State Bar, Mr. Iani worked in the Congressional Offices of Senator Murkowski and Representative Young, both of Alaska. He assisted the congressmen in issues concerning fisheries protection during oil and gas exploration on the outer continental shelf.

A dedicated family man, Mr. Iani spends his free time with his wife and children. The family enjoys spending time in the outdoors fishing, hiking and participating in several winter sports.
